4 Days After Surgery...

So I had my knee surgery on Monday and I am back at work today after three days of working from home.

This is what my knee looked like on Tuesday:

Not too bad. This was right after they removed the drain and unwrapped it all. I was thinking that it was gonna be so easy. I mostly stayed off it the rest of Tuesday and then on Wednesday I felt so good, I was walking around without my crutches, letting the dogs out, folding laundry and then yesterday...

No picture, but it looked like someone replaced my knee with a very large grapefruit. Not good and it didn't feel very good either. I have my first visit with my physical therapist yesterday afternoon and was instructed to USE MY CRUTCHES.

It's hard, because I think that when I don't need them I am better, but as it was explained to me that my knee has been through some trauma with the surgery and I need to use the crutches to help my knee heal. Point taken.

So I am using my crutches and I have a few exercises to work on this weekend with it and then physical therapy three times next week. So not looking forward to it! The hardest thing yesterday was that it was so nice outside! I would have loved to have been out running instead of stuck doing PT. So unfair!

Stitches come out on Tuesday, and I think I can give up the support hose then too, which will be nice because they are making it even warmer in my already toasty office. Maybe I'll get a good picture of it this weekend to post next week...

Surgery...

Well, it's official, I need to have surgery on my left knee now. It is scheduled for February 15th, which is just over a week away! Funny, I think I am more nervous this time, maybe ignorance was bliss last time. Dr. Hines thinks that if we do it now that I should be good to be running by the summer, so my whole year won't be a disappointment.

For now, now half in March, too bad I already paid that $45 registration, and now relay in the Memorial in April. I am bummed more about the relay because it was gonna be so fun. Oh well, there is always next year.

It is hard to not be depressed about the whole situation though. Recover is not going to be easy and it'll be like I am starting from scratch and not working my butt off for the last year to get into good enough shape for everything I have been doing. According to Dr. Hines, I am young, and since I am going to live to be 100 I should go ahead and get this taken care of now.

We are still waiting to hear from the vet on Lucy's tests they ran on Wednesday. Sadly, we might have some tough decisions to make about her. I am hoping they call me today with her results.

Feeling Old...

Well it's official. I am 35 and it's all down here from here. I had an MRI on my left knee today and will go back to see Dr. Hines on Thursday. He is probably going to tell me that this knee looks like my right one did and then it'll be another lateral release for me.

I did go see my regular doctor last Monday. He ordered another blood test to see which of my cholesterol was the bad kind and which was the good kind. Thursday I got the good news in the mail. I definitely have high cholesterol. He's giving me six months to get it under control with diet, and if that doesn't work then it'll be medication for me. Just what I want is to be taking pills every day. So for now it's egg whites, whole grains and almost no cheese and 1% or skim milk. Great. The Horizon Organic chocolate milk that I am now addicted to is 1%, so I can keep drinking that. We had Mexican food at Jen's on Saturday night and I didn't eat any queso, didn't put cheese on my fajita and only had the little bit of jack cheese that was on the top of the sweet potato and black bean enchiladas that I made. As usual, not much feedback on the enchiladas. I thought they were good.

So for now, things just seem to be getting better and better. Not sure if Lucy is doing okay or not. Saturday she got turned around in the backyard and was barking at the back fence instead of the door to be let back inside. I had to go out with her leash to get her inside. Poor old girl. I am so not ready for her to be as old as she is.

Knee Pain...

So after the horrible run last Tuesday night I didn't run again until yesterday. Stacy and I had planned to put in six miles (the half is only 9 weeks away! Yikes!) So we were planning to run the 5k route from the Tie Dye Tri twice and I fought through the first round. After that I couldn't run anymore and I could barely walk.

I have an appointment tomorrow to see the doc that did the surgery to straighten out the right one. I am thinking that it has finally caught up with the left.

I also just got a call from Dr. Wall's office. Apparently my cholesterol is high. So now I have to follow up with my regular doctor and go back and see Dr. Wall in three months. Good lord, can I feel any older?

Christmas...

So we had some excitement here in Oklahoma on Christmas Eve. 14.1 inches of snow at the airport, which I believe is an all-time record for snowfall in the state. Crazy, huh?

The in-laws were in the car for 11 hours driving in from T town. The trip is usually about 2 hours. They got stuck at the end of the turnpike behind a jack-knifed semi and apparently ODOT had to wait for 7 hours for a wrecker to clear it. Thankfully, they had eaten lunch and filled up the gas tank before they left Tulsa. They made it all the way to our house and then couldn't get all the way in the driveway. So the car spent the night parked half way in the street.

It was a good Christmas though.
Camy loved her zhu zhu pet and the skirts I bought for her and Cars, along with the leggings from gammy. She has had a pair on every day since Christmas. Thankfully, the skirt that I got Cars, which is a size smaller than the one I bought Camy, fits Camy ok.
I know I should have done two pairs of yoga pants for Cars and two skirts for Camy, but I thought they both might like both outfits.
Oh well, I guess I'll know for next time. My girls definitely have their own style.

Carson also loved her zhu zhu pet. The girls have a list with all the names of the zhu zhu pets that they have hanging in their room now. They have marked off the names of the two they have and have plans to get the other seven.

Carson especially liked the iPod Touch from gammy and pop. The Paul Frank cover we got her is too cute. (Camy got Hello Kitty for hers.)

The green vest she has on is her new favorite. She has been wearing it around the house non stop. I think she thinks it's a hoodie and not a real coat. Oh well, at least she likes it.

I know I am a little biased, but I think this is the best Christmas present anyone got. My very own Kitchenaid stand mixer! I love love love it. Got to whip up some very tasty mashed potatoes for Christmas dinner, and made some pizza dough the other night. I haven't done any real baking since I got it on account of the fact that I have tons of cookies and cupcakes left since our guest list was shortened by the storm. Oh well, there will be plenty of time to bake and bake!

So now it's almost the new year. 2009 has been a great year. We have our finances in order and are on our way to being debt free. I ran 4) 5ks, one Pub Run, did one sprint triathlon and one killer duathlon. I feel like I am in the best shape of my life and am ready for some new challenges in 2010.

First is the half marathon in March. I am going to rest my quad for a few days and then get back at it. Happy New Year!

I Can't Resist...

http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-november-18-2009/daily-show--the-rogue-warrior

I can't resist. Sarah Palin will be in Norman tomorrow for a book singing and I saw this on The Daily Show. It is too funny. How people can be behind this woman is beyond me.

More from the Pub Run...

Carson and Camy with their Pop and Gammy doing the one mile fun run, while we did the four mile run.
Camy even had on a plaid skirt.
