Pack it Up...

They say that all you really need to be a runner is a pair of shoes, but if you have ever packed for an out of town race you know that just isn't true.

First things first, I headed to the chiropractor this morning to get adjusted and get my IT band taped up.

Yep, that is pink tape, I had to bring my own because I wanted something to match my new tank I will be wearing on Sunday. Those are a pair of Injinji socks that I wore today. Yes, I wear them when I am not running. They just make my toes very happy.

You know what else makes me very happy?

I cannot tell you how happy this makes me.

So I started packing tonight. We are planning to drop the dogs off at the doggie hotel, and hitting the road by about 10 tomorrow morning. What am I taking with me?

  • Shorts. Yes, shorts! I can't remember the last time I ran in shorts. I am actually planning to wear the same shorts I wore for my first marathon. They will forever be known as my marathon shorts.
  • Tank. I was super jealous of my friends that ran the Disney marathon last month in their cute OK Runner tanks, and I got mine today.
  • Socks. My new Injinji compression toesocks.
  • Shoes. I can't believe I am running a marathon in a pair of New Balance shoes. They have been good to my feet for the last two months. I do look forward to the Ravenna 4s I am getting soon, and I will work them into rotation with the New Balance shoes.
  • Warm layer. Knee sock arm warmers, throw away shirt, gloves, ear warmer. I doubt I will need the ear warmers, but I will probably wear the gloves, the t-shirt is one I will leave behind, and the arm warmers are something I could live with not coming home with.
  • Odds and ends. Rain jacket, wind jacket, capri running pants, cropped running pants, long sleeve shirt, visor, body glide, paper tape (to protect my toenails), extra socks, compression calf sleeves (you never know), compression socks for post race, Spi belt, GU chomps and my Garmin and charger.
  • Then you have pajamas, Sunday post race clothes and all bathroom necessities.

There is alot to think about when you are packing for a destination race. I hope I don't forget anything.

I need to make sure I have a playlist ready to go in the morning.

I am sure I will check and double check everything that already made it into my suitcase tomorrow. I am glad that we aren't going to be in a big rush tomorrow. I am nervous enough as it is.

Race weeked here I come!

Tuesday Thoughts...

  • Penny was snuggling with me last night while we watched The Walking Dead. I managed to take a picture of her. She kinda looks weird.
  • We are watching reruns of The Big Bang Theory. The girls get very excited when it's an episode that has Soft Kitty in it.
  • I think I am getting close to getting rid of my hacking cough and being able to breathe through my nose on a regular basis.
  • We got snow in Oklahoma City today, and the whole city did not shut down. We will see what happens tomorrow.

The scene fom Josh's work. His building is a bit taller than mine.

The scene from my work. You can't tell but my car is in that parking lot covered in snow.

  • I won something on one of my favorite blogs a couple of weeks ago and my prize came in the mail yesterday. Shut Up and Run had a giveaway of Injinji socks, and imagine my surprise when I saw that I had won. I LOVE my Injinji socks, and three free pair was like Christmas in February.
  • I had hoped for a pair of their compression socks, I ended up going to Zappos.com this morning and ordered a pair. They will be here tomorrow and I will try them out and probably be wearing them in the Cowtown marathon. I post a review in a few days.

New Gear...

I get emails from Gear Buzz. Most of the time it is for something I would never buy, but I have gotten some really good deals.

The latest deal I took advantage of was for some Pro Compression calf sleeves. I have my one pair of CEP compression socks I wear for long run recovery, but I can't wear them when I run because my feet are special. Not really, its just that my toes don't play well with others so they have to have their only little individual sock area in order to be happy. Oh how I love my Injinji toesocks. I would wear them every day if I could. (Which really, I probably could.)

My new calf sleeves came in the mail on Saturday and I was dying to try them out.

It was about 30 degrees this morning with almost no wind. So I busted out my favorite running crops from Lululemon and my new calf sleeves.

I made sure to wear my pink Injinji socks and my pink long sleeved shirt. I haven't had that much pink on for a run since this picture almost two years ago.

I did like the calf sleeves, and I will be wearig them again. It was a good run this morning. 6 miles in 54 minues. Patti didn't have such a good time because of her damn IT band, but I have my fingers crossed that she will be back at it with no painin no time.

I got to yoga tonight and I have decided that yoga on the days that I run is way better than on the days I don't run. Except for long run Saturday. I feel good, nice and stretched out and relaxed. I am very excited that my shoulder stand seems to be coming along too. Tomorrow will be a rest day because I seem to be on a schedule that makes every other day a rest day. Works for me.
