Six Mile Run & I Feel Like Crap...

My internal clock decided that 2:45 was the time to wake up this morning. Only two hours before my alarm was supposed to go off. Of course my brain immediately started working and I was unable to go back to sleep.

I got up when my alarm went off at 4:45 to go meet the girls for six miles along one of my favorite routes. It was cold, about 23 degrees and the wind was in our faces going out, but overall it wasn't bad. Again, my legs felt pretty good. I was worried that I was going to be hacking the whole time, or my gloves would be turned into tissues, but the coughing and runny nose held off until after I was back in my car.

Six miles in just over 53 minutes, it felt hard but I think it was the cold, because my legs didn't feel bad.

It was off to work, in horrible traffic, where I sat at my desk with a dry hacking cough all day. I sound like I should really cut back on my pack a day cigarette habit. I have had a horrible headache all day because of it.

I am looking forward to sleeping in a bit tomorrow. Why have one rest day when you can have two or three? Maybe I will find a yoga class to do tomorrow night.

On a happier note.

This book is so good. I am more than 2/3 done and this could be one of the best books I have read in a while. It has not been scary like I was worried it would be, I have had a hard time putting it down. Such an interesting story. You should read it.

What Was I Thinking, and Tomorrow's Long Run...

I talked yesterday about the great Stephen King book that I started reading this week. I said that it didn't sound like it would be scary. I think I was wrong.

Let's just say that when the main character goes back in time he ends up in a small town that has recently had some children murdered by a clown. Only Stephen King would include the super scary clown from IT in a book that doesn't seem like it would be scary.

I should have known.

It's Friday night, which means that tomorrow is Saturday morning, which means that there is a long run on tap. I was nervous about how many miles I was going to need to get in. I have run exactly zero miles this week, so I am hoping I might feel rested. Since I am working from a Maybe Cowtown Marathon Training Plan, I just run however many miles Craig tells me to. This week he said ten would be good for my first post stomach crud run.

The problem with not running for the last six days is that I tend to have anxiety when it's time to run again. It's like I am not sure my legs still work, which is silly, but it still makes me anxious.

Not as anxious as this guy.

No one is anxious as Rocky.

So while I am sure I won't die, I guess we will see how it turns out.

A Stephen King Book...

I got a Nook for my birthday in 2011 and ever since then I have been reading non-stop. Sadly, you cannot check out books easily on the Nook from our local library and the selection is poor so my Barnes & Noble account has gotten quit a workout.

I am currently reading my first Stephen King book in years. I have read Misery, Salem's Lot and The Shining. All of which scared the hell out of me. When Annie hobbles Paul in Misery I was horrified.

My favorite Stephen King novel was The Eyes of the Dragon. This is a rare book that I have read multiple times. If I remember correctly he wrote this book for his daughter, and I think that is part of why I liked it as much as I did.

I don't like scary things much. I don't watch scary movies, and I haven't read another Stephen King bok in so long because the ones I have read have been so scary. When you are close to 40 than 30 you really shouldn't have to sleep with a nightlight, so I avoid anything that might cause me to want to.

I ran across 11/22/63 a few weeks ago and thought the premise sounded very interesting.

Synopsis:

Jake Epping is a thirty-five-year-old high school English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who makes extra money teaching adults in the GED program. He receives an essay from one of the students—a gruesome, harrowing first person story about the night 50 years ago when Harry Dunning’s father came home and killed his mother, his sister, and his brother with a hammer. Harry escaped with a smashed leg, as evidenced by his crooked walk.

Not much later, Jake’s friend Al, who runs the local diner, divulges a secret: his storeroom is a portal to 1958. He enlists Jake on an insane—and insanely possible—mission to try to prevent the Kennedy assassination. So begins Jake’s new life as George Amberson and his new world of Elvis and JFK, of big American cars and sock hops, of a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and a beautiful high school librarian named Sadie Dunhill, who becomes the love of Jake’s life—a life that transgresses all the normal rules of time.

Would you be willing to kill one person if you knew that millions of lives would be saved? What a great premise for story. If I am lucky I won't need a nightlight after this one.
